The region’s economy can expect to receive a sizeable boost as golfing fans flock to the resort from around the UK and Europe – possibly further afield – for the four-day event from September 28 to October 1 next year.
The news follows the announcement that Lee Westwood would be hosting the event in 2017, following on from Luke Donald who hosted last month’s tournament at The Grove – and it cements Westwood’s close connection to Close House having been its official attached professional since 2011.
Graham Wylie, the multi-millionaire owner of the impressive golf resort, said he’s delighted to bring such a momentous sporting event to the North East, and told how it has already been two years in the making.
The Sage founder said organisers were initially reticent to bring the huge event to the North East, but is confident that with the region’s full support the British Masters event will be successful enough to warrant a return visit.

My dad (who became the No. 1 putting coach for me over the time — inspired by Dave Stockton, who has also helped me a lot) and I agreed on a simple drill of putting an alignment stick on the ground about five feet from the hole and stroking putts just above it (you may also put a tee in the ground the width of your putter so you learn to hit putts out of the middle of the club face). The key part to this drill is, however, to do this it for right-to-left and left-to-right psutt. The break forces me to hit putts with the perfect speed.
